If you’d asked me in 1989 “what do you want to be when you grow up?” I would have said, “a writer!”
When I was a kid, I dreamed of becoming a writer. I loved books so much that in grade school I’d walk in line while reading.
I started writing poems and stories in the second grade. Later, my middle school drama class performed a play I wrote. I was an editor of my middle school’s paper and president of the Literary Club in high school. Before graduating high school, I’d published quite a few poems and performed them at spoken word events and over the radio.
In 1997 I was accepted to Hollins University which has one of the nation’s top ten Creative Writing programs. I majored in English and minored in Sociology. I’ve been autodidact my whole life and have an endless thirst for knowledge.
